Issue #1

It was time for a new zine. It is called Today, the voice you speak with may not be your own and now the first issue is here.

The zine consists of the words, images and concepts of others. So loads of found and erasure poetry, collage, Oulipo or Dada based poetry plus contributions from other artists and poets. Even the title is a quote from DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid.

Each issue will be themed and this one is The Grooming Issue. Contributors were asked to ‘share your best grooming tip’ and there are pieces from:

doting thomarse

  • UK artist and filmmaker Renee Vaughan Sutherland. Here is a still from her recent performance at House 3:

  • And musician Ian Powne from The Stress of Leisure has done some texta art for the issue, too. You can see The Stress of Leisure next at the New Globe Theatre on Feb 22, supporting Dave Graney and the mistLY. Here is a clip of Sunday Afternoon:

As a very special bonus, each of the 50 limited editions include a bonus beard extract, courtesy of doting thomarse!

Now, the design of the zine is quite complex, so here is a handy video demonstration on how to read it:

If you would like to respond to this issue’s challenge (share your best grooming tip), send it to lavenderroom1 [at] yahoo [dot] co [dot] uk – I prefer jpegs, pdfs or links, thanks!

And finally, you can pick up a copy of the issue at my poetry performances, Sticky Institute or my etsy store!
